CBT Training for UOSSM USA in Jordan
Partner: Union of Medical Care and Relief Organizations (UOSSM USA)
In June 2024, a 20-hour Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) training program was conducted for mental health professionals from UOSSM USA in Jordan. The initiative was designed to strengthen the clinical capacity of practitioners working with individuals affected by conflict, displacement, and trauma. The training focused on practical applications of CBT for addressing depression, anxiety, PTSD, and related conditions among vulnerable populations.
The curriculum combined core CBT theory with applied techniques adapted for humanitarian and low-resource settings. A strong emphasis was placed on trauma-informed care, cultural sensitivity, and ethical clinical practice—ensuring that participants could deliver effective support in complex environments.
To promote regional collaboration and knowledge sharing, the training was co-facilitated by experienced professionals from UOSSM Syria. This cross-border engagement allowed for a meaningful exchange of expertise, fostering a deeper understanding of shared challenges and scalable solutions across different operational contexts.
The training employed a variety of learning methods to ensure participant engagement and skill development. These included interactive lectures, experiential role-plays, group reflections, and supervised skill practice. Real case discussions allowed participants to apply concepts to their daily work, while guided feedback and ongoing mentorship supported their professional growth. Participants also received access to CBT manuals and digital resources for continued learning.
This training represented a critical step in expanding the regional capacity for trauma-focused care and equipping mental health workers with evidence-based tools to serve communities impacted by crisis.
